This policy explains when JDM Engine Bay Inc. accepts returns, exchanges and refunds, and what to do if something goes wrong with your order.

All sales are final

All sales are final. An exchange, return or refund is only considered in the situations listed in Section 3.

Section 1 – Policy at a glance

  • We do not accept returns or give refunds for items that do not fit your vehicle.
  • An exchange, return or refund is only considered if we posted incorrect Japanese specifications for the item by mistake.
  • Defects covered by our warranty are handled under our Warranty Policy.
  • Shipping and transportation charges are non-refundable.
  • Deposits are non-refundable.
  • Orders that have not shipped can be cancelled. See our Cancellation Policy.
  • Refused or returned orders are charged a 20% restocking fee on the invoice amount, plus return freight.

Section 2 – Know what you are buying

  • Our engines, transmissions and parts are imported from Japan. Unless a listing says New, items are used and are not new.
  • Used engines typically have 20,000–60,000 miles, depending on the model year.
  • Small scratches are normal. Fragile plastic, metal or rubber parts may bend or break during shipping; replacements can be taken from your original engine or a local used parts store.
  • Every engine passes a multi-point inspection and compression test. Compression test results are available on request.
  • Call us to confirm a part fits your vehicle and what modifications, if any, are needed.

Section 3 – When an exchange, return or refund is considered

  • We posted incorrect Japanese specifications for the item by mistake.
  • A defect is covered by our Warranty Policy. In that case we may, at our discretion, repair the engine with rebuilt or serviceable used parts, or exchange the engine.

Orders that have not shipped can be cancelled. See our Cancellation Policy.

Section 4 – What isn't eligible

  • Items that do not fit your vehicle
  • Shipping and transportation charges
  • Deposits
  • Shipping damage that was not written on the freight release when you signed it
  • Damage caused by mishandling during shipping (shipping insurance is provided by the freight company)
  • Anything excluded by our Warranty Policy, such as improper installation, abuse, overheating, modifications or racing

Section 5 – Warranty claims

  1. Start your claim by contacting us.
  2. You pay the freight to return a defective engine. A replacement ships only after our staff inspect the returned engine.
  3. If it is defective, we refund your shipping and send a replacement. If it is not defective, you pay the return shipping.
  4. Return the engine in the same condition we sent it. Missing parts will be charged to you.
  5. If the wrong or defective engine is not returned within 60 days of the replacement shipping, you will be charged the full engine price plus freight.

Coverage periods, covered parts, exclusions and maintenance requirements are listed in our Warranty Policy.

Section 6 – Shipping damage

  • Inspect the outer packaging for visible damage before you sign the delivery release. The freight company will not let you open the package first.
  • Write any damage on the release form before you sign, and do not let the driver leave until you have inspected the packaging.
  • If you sign without noting possible damage, the freight company is released from responsibility and you will not be reimbursed for shipping damage.
  • Shipping insurance is provided by the freight company, not by JDM Engine Bay Inc. We are not responsible for damage caused by mishandling during shipping.

See our Shipping Policy for more on freight deliveries.

Section 7 – Refused or returned orders

  • Refused or returned orders are charged a 20% restocking fee on the invoice amount, plus return freight.
  • Shipping and transportation charges are non-refundable.

Section 8 – Exchanges and repairs

An exchange is only considered if we posted incorrect Japanese specifications for the item by mistake. Under our warranty, JDM Engine Bay Inc. may, at its discretion, repair the engine with rebuilt or serviceable used parts, or exchange the engine. Repairs or exchanges made under the warranty do not extend the original warranty period.

Section 9 – Local installation

We install the engines and transmissions you buy from us at our San Leandro location. The installation workmanship is covered by a labor warranty, and the engine or transmission keeps its standard product warranty. See Local Installation.
